To be a valuable global supplier
for metallic honeycombs and turbine parts
MAT Aviation manufactures high-quality, precision-welded stainless steel honeycomb cores using formed stainless steel strips. Designed for projects requiring consistent cellular geometry, durable metallic construction and application-specific dimensions, our honeycomb cores can be supplied in flat, round, ring-shaped and other custom configurations.
We offer 304 and 316L stainless steel as material options, with other grades available for technical evaluation. Material selection, cell geometry and joining methods are reviewed together according to the customer drawing, operating environment and intended application.
| Engineering Feature | Customer Benefit |
|---|---|
| Corrosion-resistant material options | 304 and 316L provide useful corrosion resistance in many industrial environments; the appropriate grade depends on service conditions. |
| Precision-welded cellular structure | Precision forming and welding processes help maintain consistent cell dimensions and alignment while creating stable joints between the metal strips. |
| Custom geometry | Cell size, foil thickness, core depth, overall shape and dimensions can be reviewed against application requirements. |
| Metallic integration | A welded stainless steel core may be suitable for integration into engineered metal assemblies, subject to design and process review. |
| Application-oriented production | Manufacturing and inspection requirements can be defined around customer drawings and project specifications. |
304 stainless steel offers useful formability, weldability and corrosion resistance for many general industrial applications. 316L stainless steel contains molybdenum and generally provides better resistance to chloride-related pitting than 304. Final material selection depends on the intended service conditions and technical requirements.
Manufacturing typically involves material preparation, foil forming, cell assembly, precision welding and dimensional inspection. Forming and welding parameters are selected according to the material grade, cell geometry, component dimensions and customer requirements. Quality checks may cover cell consistency, joint integrity, core depth, overall dimensions and material traceability.
MAT Aviation also offers customizable spot welding patterns. The number, spacing and positions of spot welds can be adjusted according to customer drawings and engineering requirements to accommodate different honeycomb geometries and structural designs.
MAT Aviation operates an AS9100D-certified quality management system and holds Nadcap accreditations for special processes including Welding, Non-Destructive Testing, Nonconventional Machining and Heat Treating. Applicable accreditation scope and inspection requirements are confirmed for each order.
| Application | Design Considerations |
|---|---|
| Wind tunnel and industrial flow straighteners | Cell geometry, flow direction, core depth and pressure drop are selected for the required airflow-conditioning function. |
| Aerospace and energy honeycomb sealing components | Stainless steel honeycomb cores may be incorporated into specific sealing assemblies where the alloy and joining process meet the component specification. |
| EMI shielding ventilation assemblies | Stainless steel cores can be evaluated as part of conductive honeycomb vent designs; shielding performance depends on the complete assembly and testing. |
| Marine and shipbuilding applications | Applications include shipboard ventilation, airflow management and selected marine engineering components. |
| Custom industrial and acoustic structures | Metallic cellular structures can be assessed for specialized supports, airflow systems and acoustic assemblies according to design requirements. |

Specification note: The ranges above describe MAT Aviation’s overall metal honeycomb manufacturing capabilities; they do not mean every size, foil thickness or core depth combination is available in every stainless steel grade. Feasibility, surface treatment and tolerances must be confirmed for the specific drawing and operating conditions.
Packaging and delivery are agreed during quotation. Please indicate any requirements for surface protection, handling, part identification, material documentation or export packing.
Yes. We review the drawing, grade, cell size, foil thickness, core depth, tolerances and intended application before confirming manufacturing feasibility.
Both grades offer formability and weldability. 316L generally has better resistance to chloride-related pitting than 304, but material choice depends on the operating medium, temperature, design details and other service conditions.
Not necessarily. The table shows overall manufacturing ranges. Available combinations depend on grade, geometry, part size and welding requirements.
Please provide your drawing, stainless steel grade, cell size, foil thickness, core depth, quantity, dimensional tolerances and inspection requirements. Operating conditions and intended application are also helpful.
